Phillips Hall

Harrisonburg, Virginia

This project consisted of demolishing the existing dining hall onsite and building the new Phillips Hall on the same site. Phillips Hall is located in the middle of JMU Campus around existing buildings which had to be kept open to vehicle and foot traffic. One of the early challenges was removing an existing 35’ tall retaining wall behind the old building which was in the footprint on the new building. We worked with a subcontractor to demolish the old wall and construct a new temporary retaining wall that allowed the building foundation to be constructed safely. The overall site size was around ½ acre and our equipment had very limited room in which to work. The job was completed safely and on schedule.
