Forbes Center & Underground Pedestrian Tunnel

Harrisonburg, Virginia

This project was started in early fall 2008 and completed the spring of 2010. Scope included blasting rock, removal of unusable material, installation of new utilities and tie into existing lines, prep and grade for paving and concrete, and final grade and seeding.

Challenges encountered on this site included securing safe blasting areas (nearby businesses, road and pedestrian traffic) locating and working around existing utilities, and re-routing traffic in a safe manner. We also installed 800 ft. of 96 diameter pipe for an underground detention system which incorporated 3 bio-filter systems that were installed by crane.

The success of this project was also heavily related to the teamwork between Partners, JMU, and the General Contractor to troubleshoot engineering and plan design.
